Blackberry Bold versus 3G iPhone
The Blackberry Bold will be launched in Australia on July 29 and will be available to the public probably in September although there is talk of technical issues so it’s possible these dates may change. It will be available with Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and Three.
Of course it is being compared with the iPhone feature by feature and there is a fantastic, detailed comparison plus reader comments on the boygeniusreport site.
A quick summary of the reviews is that the Blackberry Bold is preferable for those looking for an efficient device with which to keep on top of work while away from the office. The iPhone excels for entertainment and overall design appeal. So as one commenter put it “play with the iPhone, work with the Blackberry Bold”.
Both devices had good reviews in all areas so it’s more of a case of which is slightly ahead in each area rather than either one of the devices out and out failing in any area.
The Blackberry Bold excels when you need to be productive and get things done efficiently because of the superior email functionality on which they’ve built a strong reputation, and because it has a keyboard. For corporate use, the Blackberry Bold has strong centralised management capabilities and is known for being the most secure device.
The iPhone has the much touted sex appeal factor and the applications store, combined with a platform which makes it easy for developers to create new applications, means that thousands of developers are creating a multitude of applications such as games, messaging applications etc.
It’s going to come down to personal choice. Pricing isn’t known yet but it’s likely that the outright purchase price for Blackberry Bold and iPhone will be similar. Of course the die hard Apple fans will prefer the iPhone and the same goes for Blackberry fans.
