The iPad 2 is available as a 3G and WiFi model or WiFi only. There are also 3 different versions, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. The options for getting any one of these models is to buy outright or purchase one on a contract with one of the telcos in Australia.
Mobicity is one of the cheapest and reputable places to buy online. The current price for the 16GB 3G model is $649. See details on the Mobicity website. If you buy outright, you'll probably want to purchase a data plan. Virgin offer great SIM only plans for the iPad 2 on a month by month basis from $14 a month. You can also buy the iPad 16GB from Optus for $745 with 3GB of data included and flexible recharge options.
The main Australian telcos all offer contracts for the iPad 2 which include a cost per month for data and cost per month for the device. This can work out to be a cheaper way of purchasing the iPad 2 with no upfront costs but you sign up for a 12 month or 24 month contract.
What we've shown above are the most popular iPad 2 deals from the Australian telcos. All the plan details have not be shown and compared but it's an overview comparison. Click through to the carrier websites to see all the details or browse through our menus to compare in different ways.
The iPad is a stunning piece of technology. It looks fantastic, has a gorgeous, sharp, bright screen and is a great portable media player. It excels if you want to watch video, listen to music or do some web browsing. The size makes it portable so you can do these things while out and about but the screen is large enough to be functional.
It doesn't replace a laptop as it's not a fully functional computer but it consolidates the functions of a netbook, e-reader, gaming device and media player. In addition, the iPad gives you access to the Apple app store with the fantastic range of functionality that this provides.
To connect to the Internet using the iPad you need a special SIM card. It's a micro-SIM specifically for the iPad. It's not possible to use a SIM card from a phone. There is no USB port so a USB mobile broadband modem can't be used.
All the main carriers in Australia have plans for the iPad and there is a great deal of flexibility in how much data on postpaid plans and different recharge options on prepaid plans. Here's an overview of some of the best iPad plans available in Australia.
