Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Launch Delayed Due to Breach of Patents
A few days ago Samsung announced the launch of the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia. The launch date was set for August 11th. However, a Federal Court ruling means that Samsung will not be able to advertise or sell the current version of the Tab 10.1 in Australia. Apple has successfully argued the case that the Galaxy tablet infringes 10 Apple design patents.
The next hearing is set for August 29th so it will be at least a month before we see a new version of the Galaxy Tab in Australia. Samsung have been ordered to provide three early samples of the Tab 10.1 to Apple.
The claims by Apple that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a copycat tablet centre around the similarity of graphical user interface design elements. These images include those for dragging text and icons and images for unlocking the device. There are also claims by Apple that the functionality breaches patents.
Vodafone are set to offer the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 to replace the older version which is no longer available. The timeframe for this is now uncertain.
